My Name Is Time

my name is time and I’m wearing your clothes
they fit pretty well how nobody knows
the glove in your mind ain’t the glove on your hand
when you get that straight that’s when you’ll understand

those people downtown they all wear coats and ties
and I have seen papers with words in their eyes
they step on hot concrete in leather so thin
the blood in their legs boils like mercury my friend

a lover will pull you right up along side
you’ll wallow in tears or be hollow with pride
and if you start walking you might make the door
but if you should tarry you’ll leave nevermore

those people downtown they all wear coats and ties
and I have seen papers with words in their eyes
they step on hot concrete in leather so thin
the blood in their legs boils like mercury my friend

the river is dry and the riverbed is wide
a bridge of plain steel connects either side
should you cross over just keep this in mind
I’m wearing your clothes and my name is time

those people downtown they all wear coats and ties
and I have seen papers with words in their eyes
they step on hot concrete in leather so thin
the blood in their legs boils like mercury my friend
